Climate justice at Cop28
From the diocese: A new Climate Equality report released by Oxfam reveals that the richest 1% of the world’s population produced as much carbon pollution in 2019, as the five billion people who made up the poorest two-thirds of humanity.
Furthermore, climate change is having an unequal impact on the world’s poorest, who are least equipped to respond to the increasingly devastating impacts.
Climate justice is vital if we are to protect the poor and vulnerable. Cop28 has already made the headlines because of planned private deals between nations and fossil fuel companies, but the world needs productive and impactful outcomes. At today’s launch of Cop28, we are inviting parishes to use this guidance to:
- Pray
- Advocate
- Raise awareness
